Medical Stuff

Sorry to bore you, but this is medical information I want to keep in my periphery. Better yet, I'm keeping them in my blog. That way I can search for them; relying on technology as a memory support system. I feel better already.

Info on:
- stress tests
- EBCT heart scan
- c-reactive protein blood test (CRP)
- benchmark cholesterol numbers

Actual article.

Antibiotics to have on hand: tamiflu, oseltamivir (for avian flu).

Also, cipro (anthrax).

Rumor is that Mexico sells antibiotics over the counter. I'll have to look into that next time I'm in Mexico.

How to Calculate your calorie needs:

1. begin with a base of 655 calories [men 66]
2. multiply your weight (in pounds) by 4.3 [men 6.3]
3. Multiply your height (in inches by 4.7 [men 12.7]
4. add 1, 2 and 3
5. Multiply your age by 4.7 [men 6.8]
6. Subtract the total of #5 from the total of #4 to get your RMR (Resting Metabolic Rate) in calories
7. To determine your daily maintenance calories, use your RMR (#6) and multiply by
1.2 if you don't exercise
1.3 if you exercise 2-3 hours a week
1.4 if you exercise 4-6 hours a week
1.6 if you exercise 7 hours or more per week
To lose 1/2 a pound to 1 pound a week, subtract 250 to 500 calories a day from these maintenance calories, but should never go below RMR, in fact stay at least 150 calories above it.
