Every summer these purple flowers bloom. And, try as I might, every summer I forget their names. That won't happen again because I will post their name here in my blog. Gee, blogging as a memory tool. Cool.
When voicemail first came out, I began using it as a memory tool. I'd be just falling asleep at night and I'd have a brilliant idea or remember something important that had to be done the next day. Rather than search in the dark for a pen or pencil and get out of bed to write it in my calendar, I reach for my bedside phone and call my voicemail to leave a message for myself. I occasionally use email as a reminder system as well. So, now I'll do the same with my blog.
Next August, when the purple flowers show up, I won't have to rack my brain for the precise neural connection that contains the name of this flower. I won't have to ask friends and strangers, "what is the name of that purple flower?" (And isn't it my luck that I'd always ask people who didn't know either?). No, instead I will come to my blog and do a search. Then I will know the name of the purple flower is:
Purple Loosestrife
